Robin made it to the National Team. (Not as a player.)

Our Head of Sales is now a coach for Poland’s U19 American football team.

THE BACKGROUND

Robin Volkmar has been coaching American football as a volunteer for years. Long before he became Head of Sales at BWS, he was already spending his weekends on the sideline and his evenings on the practice field. His club: The Krakow Kings, a junior American football team based in Krakow.

This year, that work got noticed. Robin joined the coaching staff of Poland’s newly formed U19 National Team as Defensive Line Coach and Assistant Special Teams Coordinator.

THE TASK

The task was clear, but the timeline was tight. The team had to be prepared for an upcoming international competition.

For Robin that meant ten defensive linemen from clubs across Poland, each trained in different systems with different techniques. Some had gaps in their fundamentals. Others had strong habits that didn’t fit the new defensive scheme. Robin had to get them on the same page, fill the gaps, and install a system – all in just 2 weekend camps and 8 combined practices.

Then came the game.

APRIL 4, 2025 – HELSINKI, FINLAND

Finland 16 : 13 Poland

Halftime: Poland 13 – Finland 0.

Poland traveled to Helsinki to face Finland. Not a soft opening opponent. Finland has been a consistent top-3 finisher at the European Championships. Nobody expected a close game – apart from team Poland.

Poland led 13:0 at halftime.

They lost 13:16 in the second half. A heartbreaker, but also a statement. A newly formed team, limited preparation time, playing in the opponent’s stadium, pushing one of Europe’s best programs to the final minutes.

WHAT’S NEXT

The next game is in September, in Poland. The opponent: Hungary.

“Apart from everyone who supported our team directly, I’d like to thank my bosses at BWS for the flexibility to align my coaching with my work here. It’s hard to imagine combining both in a stiff 9-5 job. I’m glad they trust me here to do my job while taking care of all my coaching duties.”
